3 Nigerian Public Holidays To Expect In September - 2024

Public holidays in Nigeria serve as essential breaks from work, allowing citizens to rest and celebrate important events.

1) Eid-ul-Maulud 2024

The Nigerian federal government will designate a public holiday in honor of Eid-ul-Maulud on September 16, 2024.

This holiday commemorates the birth of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad, which is observed in Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. On this day, schools and businesses close, giving the general public time off.

For many Muslims, Eid-ul-Maulud is a time of celebration and reflection. In various countries, the day is marked by parades, and homes and mosques are often decorated.

Additionally, Islamic schools and groups may hold educational events to increase understanding of the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad among both Muslims and non-Muslims Eid-ul-Maulud is also a moment for Muslims to express gratitude for their blessings and renew their commitment to living by the principles taught by Muhammad.

2) 2024 Edo State Governorship Election

The forthcoming Edo State governorship election is set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Governor Godwin Obaseki is scheduled to announce Friday, September 20, 2024, a work-free day.

This will allow public personnel to travel to their respective constituencies and vote. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reports that 125,928 of 184,438 newly printed Permanent Voters' Cards (PVCs) have been collected in Edo.

This accounts for 68.3% of the new cards issued during the recent continuous voter registration exercise.

3) Anambra Local Government Election

Governor Charles Soludo's administration has set Saturday, September 28, 2024, as the date for the next local council elections in Anambra State.

The Anambra State Independent National Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) chairperson, Genevieve Osakwe, has announced that preparations are underway to ensure a smooth electoral process.
